It happens to a lot of people who install a home swimming pool. When you first install the pool everyone in the family is excited to use it and you swim in it every day. However, once the novelty wears off you find yourself using it less and less. These days, you can’t remember the last time that you went for a swim in the pool, which is really quite a shame.
A home swimming pool is a great investment in your property and it can be used in a number of ways, so don’t let yours go to waste. If you and your family have gotten bored with the pool, it might be because you are not using it in new and creative ways.
Use it to Replace the Gym
Cancel that expensive gym membership and forget about those smelly running shoes; you have a pool so you don’t need them. Let your swimming pool be your exercise instead. Swimming is an excellent form of exercise because it uses all muscle groups of the body and improves cardiovascular health. It is also much easier on the bones and joints than running because you are resisting against water rather than hard concrete.
Set yourself up a swimming exercise routine that involves doing lengths, treading water with weights and even some underwater stretches. The great thing about swimming as exercise is that no matter how hot and sweaty you get, the pool water will cool you down. It’s a great way to get fit and have fun in your own home.
Play Games with the Kids
If your kids have gotten bored of the pool, it’s time to introduce some new games that will get them out there splashing around. Perhaps you can invest in a volleyball net to string up across the width of the pool so that your family members can challenge each other to a match.
You could also get some pool rings that sink to the bottom, so that your kids can practice diving for buried treasure. There are also plenty of games that you can play in the water, such as Marco Polo or swimming tag. Do a quick search online for some fun swimming pool game ideas.
Of course, remember that when young children are swimming in the pool you should be supervising them at all times. Make it fun and join in on the game with them!
Make it a Spot for Socialising
When you invite your neighbours or relatives over in the summer, do you tend to sit inside the house or do you spend time outside by the pool. If you don’t have a pleasant place set up outside to sit, then your pool will not create a social atmosphere. If you aren’t sharing your pool with your family and friends it really is a shame, because part of the fun of having a home swimming pool is to enjoy it with others. When is the last time that you invited your friends over for a swim?
All you need is an outdoor set of table and chairs, a sun umbrella and perhaps a couple of sun loungers. Next time you invite guests over on a sunny day, encourage them to bring their swimsuits and serve them drinks next to the pool. It will only be a matter of time before someone is tempted to go for a swim to cool off.
These are just a few ideas for how you can use your home swimming pool in a number of different ways and get much more value out of your investment for many years to come.
