It’s the first week of March and by now, most of us have long forgotten our New Year’s resolutions. There’s always next year, right? But why waste the next 9 months? Start making your life better right this very minute by taking control and organizing all the junk that weighs you down!
This year, I pledged to become more organized…so far, the only organization I’ve completed is throwing my clothes into a clean, dirty, and even dirtier pile. So I decided that I’m really going to go through with my old resolution and organize my life. Here are some of the tips I’ve picked up along the way to de-stressify my cluttered life:
1) Make a To-Do or Top 3 List: Everyday, I write down the things I’d like to accomplish before I hop back into bed. Jotting down a couple tasks and then crossing them off when I’ve finished feels great and helps me focus on what actually needs to be done. On that same note, I always carry a notepad so if I have a sudden idea, I can write it down instantly. I’ve used my smart phone, a composition notebook, the back of my hand, the back of my friend’s hand, pretty much anything that will sit still long enough for me to write on it. I’ve learned that if I don’t write it down, I forget it faster than you can say Philly cheesesteak.
2) Create Baby Steps: When I have a task ahead of me that seems impossible, I break it down into itty-bitty manageable pieces. I only do a couple steps at a time and before you know it, cleaning out my garage/painting my entire house/planting a field of wheat is done!
3) Put That Back!: I’ve finally learned to put things back after I’ve finished withthem. So once I’m done roller-skating with my dog at the local park, I always put the skates back on their new shelf in the garage instead of leaving them in the middle of the hallway like I had been. Now, I’ll always know where to find them and my place looks a little bit less like an episode of Hoarders. An added perk is that I no longer trip and almost break both my legs and face on them when I get up in the morning.
These are just a few of the ways I’m trying to get back on track with my New Year’s resolution and hopefully they’ll inspire you to jump back in as well. Do you have any tips and tricks you’ve found helpful? Leave me a comment!
